He made me laugh/cry so hard - my mascara was all over my face.⁠

After 22 years working in local and national news, everyone asks me, "How was working with so and so?"⁠

It came up again this week when we were training a $20B company.⁠
⁠
Sometimes, I have nothing really to say.⁠
My mom taught me when I was a little girl, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.⁠

I can tell you that Jo Koy is as nice in person as he is on stage.⁠
He is so sweet.⁠
Vulnerable.⁠
Kind.⁠
Caring.⁠
And REAL.⁠

To be honest... I was super sad when he and Chelsea broke up. IYKYK⁠

As a leader - you don't need to be a jerk to move up.⁠
You can be a nice person and still be successful.⁠

Our new CMO asked us to shoot material for YouTube and the website. ⁠

As I spent the day working with my team, I realized how lucky I am.⁠ ⁠Lucky to have such an incredible group of people by my side. ⁠ ⁠
People with different backgrounds and different skill sets, whose goal at that moment was to help me be the best I could be.⁠.. so we can set people at ease showing them how less daunting public speaking and media training can be.⁠

It's so important to have people like this in your life.⁠ ⁠
People who light you up.⁠ ⁠
People who make you better.⁠ ⁠
People who have this kind of professional skill who provide honest feedback when needed. ⁠
⁠
Oftentimes, CEOs tell me,⁠
"You're the only one who's honest with me!"⁠
⁠
I'm there to protect them. Tell them what they've been doing that could be stopping them from progressing with their teams, investors, the board, or the media.⁠
⁠
I have those people.⁠
We all should have those people who are fearless enough to shoot straight with you.⁠
⁠

I get this question a lot, and the answer is simpler than you'd think.⁠
⁠
Start by recording yourself.⁠
Then, play it back to see what you do.⁠
⁠
What do you look like?⁠
Do you make good eye contact?⁠
Are you leaning back in your chair?⁠
If you're online, are you too far away from the camera?⁠
⁠
Once you've identified the issue, you can correct it.⁠
⁠

During my TV career - Tribune and WGN partnered with Food Network. ⁠
⁠
They flew me to NY to interview top chefs for videos to air nationwide to promote what would become...⁠
⁠
The Next Iron Chef.⁠
⁠
I loved getting a private tour of these restaurants by these top chefs.⁠
⁠
The videos performed great - and people worldwide watched The Next Iron Chef.⁠
⁠
Many of these chefs had never been interviewed for a national television show. ⁠
⁠
It felt wonderful to share my talent and coach each one to make sure they gained the confidence to perform on camera as THE expert...⁠
⁠
to make sure they shined on camera as brightly as they did in the kitchen.⁠
⁠
This will always be a very fond memory.⁠
⁠
While I was inside the Food Network building, I ran into Guy. ⁠
His real-life personality is exactly what you see on TV.⁠
That isn't always what I find... so many people are pretending to be something they're not.⁠
This is probably why Guy is so successful.⁠
He's himself.⁠
With a bit of coaching/tweaking/consulting.⁠
⁠
Looking back now, I feel kind of guilty that they sent the single girl in her 30s to do this job.⁠ At the time, I didn't cook. AT ALL.⁠
⁠
I definitely appreciated the skill and dedication -- but I have SO many questions for them now! :) ⁠
⁠
I am obsessed with good food now. It's something we dive into inside our training intensives -- because what you eat has a DIRECT correlation with how you perform as a leader.⁠
⁠
